“This is not a job for me, Love in Action is my family. It’s like saying that I have two families; when I come here, I am with my family and when I go home, I am also with my family.”
Veronica’s transformation has been a journey of resilience and growth. There was a time when addressing her mistakes would elicit a disrespectful response. However, something beautiful began to unfold within her. She started learning to listen, to exercise self-control, realizing that change wasn’t an insurmountable challenge.
In my guidance, I often emphasize the importance of taking a moment to breathe, encouraging them to refrain from speaking if it isn’t something uplifting. Through these gentle reminders, Veronica and others are learning to navigate challenges with grace and respect.
One significant source of strength for them has been their spiritual journey. Seeking God and participating in the youth group have proven to be powerful catalysts for positive change. Veronica, in particular, has found solace and inspiration in nightly Bible readings, fostering a deeper connection with God that has translated into positive shifts in her behavior.
Christina Isn't So Angry...
A story from Mama Laura • Oct 24, 2023
There’s a glimmer of hope I’ve seen in Christina lately. She used to react strongly to criticisms or directives, especially about her clothes or tasks she needed to do. But things have been different recently.
Christina has been more responsive and accepting of feedback. Instead of reacting defensively, she’s been saying things like “Yes, I’ll come right now,” or “Yes, I’ll do it.”
It’s a noticeable change, especially in the way she handles frustration. Lately, she hasn’t been having the angry outbursts she used to have and that’s a positive step for her.
I’m not entirely certain what triggered this change; it could be the growing sense of responsibility. Perhaps it’s a newfound sense of accountability or a growing spiritual awareness in the fear of God.
Whatever it is, I see an improvement in her. It’s not a complete transformation, but it’s progress, and that’s worth celebrating.
Maria Laura Zamora Diaz
Meet Maria Laura Zamora Díaz, otherwise known as “Mama Laura.” She has been working for Love in Action for nearly 10 years.
Her story began in San Juan Tecomatlán, Jalisco. She is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mama Laura dedicates her time with our teenage girls.
She started out working as a caregiver just on the weekends. As time went on, these girls won her heart over and have become her family. Though her time here hasn’t been without challenges, just looking upon the faces of these precious children helps her to keep going.
Mama Laura's prayer requests are coming soon!
